LESLEY PLANS PROGRAM FOR MASS NETDAY

Playing the important role of "teaching the teachers," a group of Lesley faculty and staff will join efforts on October 26 for the first Mass NetDay to provide teacher and parent training on children's issues and the Internet.

In developing the training program, Lesley volunteers will capitalize on the wide variety of resources here at the college, including Lesley's significant experience with technology in education and distance learning. Plans for Lesley's program include establishment of a live video-conferencing connection among three participating schools, with additional connections from each school to the Lesley network to acquire educational resources complementing the day's learning.

NetDay is a day-long event which will serve as the launching point for networking all Massachusetts schools by the end of 1997. It is based upon a similar California school networking event held in March. NetDay has strong local and state support, with Sen. Edward Kennedy and Gov. William Weld serving as honorary co-chairs. Lesley President Margaret McKenna holds a position on the board of MassNetworks, the statewide partnership directing the NetDay event.
