COLLEGE CHAPLAINCY UPCOMING EVENTS

The Rev. Katherine Hancock Ragsdale, National President of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, will present "The Politics of Abortion," Thursday, October 3, 7 p.m., in Alumni Hall. This is the first of five events in a multi-site series called "Does My Vote Matter? People of Faith Focus on the Political Process," sponsored by the the Interfaith Chaplain at Lesley, the Episcopal chaplains of Boston University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Northeastern University, and the Episcopal Diocesan College Work Committee. A reception will follow the program.

Lesley will co-sponsor several more events in this series: "With God On Our Side: A Talk by William Martin," author of "With God On Our Side" and professor of sociology at Rice University, to be held at Tuesday, October 15, 7 p.m., in the Tang Auditorium at MIT; "The Moral Crisis in Election Politics," a talk by Hubie Jones, special assistant to the chancellor for urban affairs at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, on Monday, October 21, 7 p.m., Room 346 in the Currry Student Center at Northeastern University; and "Who Will Stand With the Poor?" a talk by the Honorable Byron Rushing, State Representative on Wednesday, October 30, 7 p.m., at the Episcopal College Work Center at Boston University, 40 Prescott Street, Brookline A simple soup dinner will precede the program, beginning at 6 p.m. Call 277-5523 for reservations for the supper. The cost is $4. The program is free and open to all.

This year, Chaplain Nancy Richards will periodically be offering some times for quiet meditation, prayer and reflection. A little soft music will be playing. Participants are free to bring their own icons, prayer books, meditation seats or other items to help to get in touch with the sacred. All are welcome to come for all or any part of this time period. The first meditation is scheduled for Thursday, October 17, noon-12:30p.m. Call the chaplain at 349-8942 for the location.

On October 19, at 11:30 a.m., there will be an Interfaith Worship Service for Family and Friends Weekend in the Multipurpose Room. Parents, siblings, spouses, colleagues, loved ones, teachers and friends are welcome to celebrate in song, prayer, readings, and meditation. People of all faiths are welcome. Anyone who wants to participate (by being a reader or musician) should contact the chaplain in advance.

"Praying and Playing wtih Fabric, a Retreat Day Combining Spirituality and the Arts" will be held Saturday, October 26. Contact the chaplain for the location. Members of the Lesley community will join with students from other campuses to spend a day reflecting on sacred images and using fabric in creative ways to make banners and other vehicles for expressing our own spiritual realities.
