SONNABEND VISITING PROFESSOR

Judith Herman, M.D. will be serving as the Sonnabend Visiting Professor for 1996-97. Herman is the director of training for the Victims of Violence Program at the Cambridge Hospital; an associate clinic al professor at the Harvard Medical School; founding member of the Women's Mental Health Collective; and author of "Father-Daughter Incest" and "Trauma and Recovery. Widely acknowledged as a leading authority in research and advocacy of solutions of issues pertaining to domestic violence. A "New York Times Book Review" critique of Herman's books identified her writings as among the most important psychiatric works of our time. The visiting professorship was created to honor the memory of Elsa Sonna bend, a former chair of the Lesley College Board of Trustees and is designed to bring to campus a leading human services professional for periodic visits. The position is filled every other year. The past two Sonnabend Visiting Professors were Deborah Prothrow-Stith in 1992-93 and Hubert E. Jones in 1994-95.
