FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE02/15/04 The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University 2003-04 du Pont Visiting Artist Lecture Series: Cybale Clark-Mendes on March 18Boston, MA - Cybale Clark-Mendes will discuss the search for identity through art at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University on March 18. Through photography and video, Clark-Mendes examines identity and self-hood. A professor at Western Michigan University, Clark-Mendes also makes works in Havana, Cuba, -- a place she credits with giving her a clearer understanding of how she fits into society, both as an American and as a woman of mixed heritage. "In Havana, I feel at home due to the multiplicity of race and identities existing there," she says. The Art Institute of Boston's du Pont Visiting Artist Lecture Series, established in 1993, is a series of public lectures and workshops featuring outstanding contemporary artists from diverse backgrounds. The series is supported in part by AIB alumna Sindi Rust Westburg; the Boston Council for the Arts, a municipal agency; the Massachusetts Cultural Council; and the National Endowment for the Arts. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. March 18 in the second floor auditorium of the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Lectures are free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible.
