36 Credit Hybrid Program: Low Residency and Online
This 36-credit graduate degree draws extensively from the fields of counseling psychology, expressive arts therapies, and mindfulness studies with a keen focus on the cultural relevance and future application toward service delivery within their communities. This Self Designed Master's Degree, delivered in a cohort model, spans two years, including two 3-week summer residencies at Lesley in Cambridge, Massachusetts and two one-week winter residencies in Georgetown, Guyana. Students continue to develop their work in an online learning environment, applying their learning to their own professional practice in schools and community agencies.
Gain the Skills You Need
Graduates of the program will have gained the following competencies:
• Trauma sensitive assessment and counseling skills to address the needs of children and adolescents presenting a range of issues that include: history of trauma and/or victimization, depression, aggression, anxiety, suicide, substance use, crises, loss, learning problems, school adjustment and behavioral problems
• Ability to apply expressive therapies and mindfulness in the delivery of services to children and adolescents including their parents, families, and communities
• Ability to assist classroom teachers on how to design maximally supportive learning environments for children who present with emotional and behavioral distress
• Ability to deliver workshops, trainings, and support groups for parents and community members in order to enhance the capacity of families in caring for their children
• Ability to serve as a leader/mentor/trainer within the community of child mental health service practitioners in Guyana
• Capacity to implement a realistic self-care plan that ensures the prevention of vicarious trauma and burn out within themselves
