Inspire self-determination in students with disabilities.
If you want to have a positive effect on the education of PreK-12 students with complex learning needs, this program will give you the knowledge and skills to teach, support, and advocate for students with severe disabilities.
REGISTER: M.Ed. in Education Virtual Information Session
The program begins with an overview of the special education profession. From there, you'll take courses that cover communication, universal curriculum design, and how to teach literacy, math, and science. Learn about the many aspects of assessment and positive behavior support. Build Individualized Education Programs, and explore the transition from high school to adulthood.
During your program, you'll co-construct new knowledge with your faculty, and engage in the kind of self-reflection that leads to becoming a more compassionate and culturally aware educator. You'll also have a chance to apply your learning in authentic field experiences as well as during your student teaching experience (teacher residencies fulfill this requirement at the residency site).
At Lesley, we prepare teachers who are lifelong advocates for their students. We believe in the competence of every individual, and equal access to quality education. Here, you’ll learn to express those beliefs in your teaching. Study with faculty who believe in the competence of every individual and that equal education is a right.
Upon completion, you’ll graduate from New England's premier university for teacher preparation knowing you have the degree you need to land the career you're passionate about. That's because employers in Massachusetts prefer to hire Lesley graduates, saying that they are best prepared to enter the classroom on day one.
