A Dual Licensure Program Designed to Prepare You For Classroom Success
This Master of Education (M.Ed.) program combines an elementary education foundation with coursework in moderate disabilities, and gives you a competitive edge with two classroom licenses.
Coursework covers elementary content areas, classroom management, special education and development of Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs), and assessment. Two practicum and seminar experiences round out the program, allowing you to apply your new knowledge to elementary and moderate disabilities classrooms.
Key program information for M.Ed. in Elementary and Moderate Disabilities:
- 43-49 credits (15 courses, including one full and one half practicum)
- Take classes at Lesley’s Cambridge, MA, campus
- Prerequisites: undergraduate degree; a course in development and learning
- Program approved by Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Meets new state regulations requiring all teachers receiving special
education licensure to have training in Assistive Technology (AT) and
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

SAMPLE PROGRAM COURSE
ESPED 5100 Contemporary Perspectives in Special Education
This course provides an introduction to the profession of Special Education. From an inclusive perspective, the course examines the characteristics of disabling conditions, as well as the effects of societal attitudes, the historical context of special education, and state and federal law. The range of service delivery provided by schools and agencies will be addressed.
