Using innovative, interdisciplinary curricula, this program charts a new field of praxis for those who desire to make a difference in the world.
The Peace and Conflict Studies Specialization will provide a theoretical understanding of human conflict and practical training in interpersonal and intrapersonal communication, cultural dialogues, reflection, and mediation skills. This program is especially suitable for those preparing for a career in conflict intervention, social advocacy, human rights, and family mediation, or for those hoping to add conflict intervention and transformation practices to their existing skill set.
The Program is also designed to serve individuals seeking a career in conflict intervention, social advocacy, human rights resolutions, and family/legal mediation; those individuals desiring to add conflict transformation practices to their existing skill set, and returning veterans interested in engaging with peace initiatives at both local and global levels. Coursework aims to inform skill development and understanding of inter- and intrapersonal communication, inter-group dialogues, mediation skills, and the use of arts in peace building. These skills have broad applications in a variety of employment settings, including international non-governmental agencies (NGOs), domestic governmental agencies and embassies abroad, family courts/legal clinics, health care organizations, education, and business. This two-year, 36-credit program is offered in a low-residency format, in which students start each year with an 8-day residency on Lesley’s campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. During the residency you’ll take classes, meet with faculty members, conduct research, and network with peers. Between residencies you’ll continue your studies in your home community and communicate regularly with faculty and peers via email, phone, and online tools.
The Interdisciplinary Studies program also offers an Advanced Professional Certificate in Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies.Program Coordinator: Dr. Meenakshi Chhabra (firstname.lastname@example.org)
