Databases

The Lesley University Library provides access to approximately 90 databases. Many of these databases contain the full text of scholarly books and journals. A list of databases by subject is available, although access to many of these resources is restricted to current Lesley community members. You can also access a list of these databases by title.

Journals

This collection includes all current subscriptions to journals and periodicals available in print and/or electronically. Most extensive journal coverage exists in education, psychology, and expressive arts therapies. Moderate coverage exists in the areas of human services, management, social sciences, and computers. Liberal arts, physical sciences, and general interest periodicals are covered selectively. For specific titles, see the Journals List. Print periodicals are available to all visitors who come into the library while electronic journals are restricted to members of the Lesley community.

Videos

The Lesley University Library has a selective collection of approximately 1,500 educational video titles (including a number of programs for children and young adults) that are available to support and enhance teaching at Lesley University and to support students in their field placements. These programs are intended for educational use and circulate to Lesley University faculty, students, and staff. The video collection holdings can be searched via the Video Catalog, as well as the FLO online catalog, along with the rest of the library's holdings. The Library also provides restricted access to a growing number of online videos.

Finding Videos from Other Sources: The Media Center offers assistance in locating other, outside sources for video rental or loan for those who do not have access to the main campus, for those needing videos longer than one week, or for those who would like to use videos that are not in the Library's collection. The Media Resources Specialist has created a research guide to selected media resources, which includes: websites, local libraries, distributors with rental services, and university film/video rental centers. Patrons make their own arrangements for rental, delivery and return. Faculty members may coordinate this with their departments.

Images

The Art Institute of Boston (AIB) maintains a focused library collection, specializing in the fields of fine arts, art history, illustration, design, and photography. The library offers an Art Images Research Guide, which has limited public access.

Teaching Resources

The Teaching Resources collection consists primarily of K-12 instructional materials, including activity guides, textbooks, children's periodicals, media and other support materials which are intended for use in teaching and other professional placements.

Materials that are classroom specific, contain a variety of worksheets and activities, or are intended for use by students in their placements. Print materials that are directed entirely to the teacher, such as curriculum guides or unit lesson plans, are usually found in the Library's Main collections.

Reference support for this collection includes directories, encyclopedias, project indexes, media guides, Books In Print for textbooks and children's literature, and source books for curriculum materials. All titles are accessible to the public through the FLO online catalog. A TRC Research Guide is also available.
