Teaching Resources Center

The Teaching Resources Center houses both the Teaching Resources Colleciton and the Children's Literature Collection.

Teaching Resources Collection

The Teaching Resources Collection consists primarily of K-12 instructional materials, including activity guides, textbooks, children's periodicals, media and other support materials which are intended for use in teaching and other professional placements.

The collection contains materials that are classroom specific, contain a variety of worksheets and activities, or are intended for use by students in their placements. Print materials that are directed entirely to the teacher, such as curriculum guides or unit lesson plans, are usually found in the Library's Main collections.

Reference support for this collection includes directories, encyclopedias, project indexes, media guides, Books In Print for textbooks and children's literature, and source books for curriculum materials. All titles are accessible to the public through the FLO online catalog. A TRC Research Guide is also available.

For information on circulation policies, please see the charts of borrowing privileges, organized by user category.

Children's Literature Collection

The Teaching Resources Center includes a large collection of children's and young adult literature. This collection includes fiction, informational books, short stories, poetry, stories in rhyme, and traditional literature.

The collections support course work in children's literature and provide examples of quality literature for a literature-based curriculum. Circulating works about children's and young adult literature are available in the main library collection.

Reference supports for this collection include autobiographical and biographical dictionaries for author studies, bibliographies, information on awards and prizes, sources for bibliotherapy, catalogs and selection aids, indexes, readability tools, and history and criticism references.

Online reference tools that support research in children's literature include Contemporary Authors and the Database of Award Winning Children's Literature. These databases are accessible from both on- and off-campus for current students and faculty.

For information on circulation policies, please see the charts of borrowing privileges, organized by user category.
