Searching the Journals List

If you are looking for a particular journal, simply type in the title of the journal into the search box on the home page and click “go;” if this journal is available at Lesley, it should appear as one of the first titles on the results list.

If your journal does not appear on the results list, Lesley does not subscribe to it. In this case, you can get the article you need from that journal through out Interlibrary Loan service.

You may also search for journal titles that start with a particular term (“starts with”), or for titles that contain a particular term (“contains”).

“Starts With” -
The “Starts with” search retrieves all the journal titles which begin with a term or phrase. For example, a search for “Education and” retrieves records for the following journals:

Education and culture
Education and information technologies, and
Education and society

“Contains” –
This option provides the broadest search, finding every journal which has your search term anywhere in the title. For instance, if you search for “biology” you will get a list of every journal that Lesley has access to with the word “biology” anywhere in the title. You may also enter partial words to get broader results; for example, if you search for “biolog” you will get every journal that has “biology” or “biological” in the title.

In addition, journals may be searched by ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) from the “Other Options” tab.

If Lesley does not subscribe to a journal that you are looking for, no record for that journal will be retrieved. In this case, you will see a list of journal titles that are alphabetically close to the journal you searched for, but your journal will not be on the list. To get an article from a journal that Lesley does not subscribe to, you can place a request through our Interlibrary Loan service.

Browsing the Journals List

By Title
To browse journals by title, select a letter from the Journals List home page. This will produce a list of journals beginning at the selected point in the alphabet.

By Subject
To browse journals by subject area, click the “By Subject” tab, and select one of the subjects from the box on the left side of the page by clicking on it. Then select one of the subcategories from the box on the right (you may select more than one by holding down the CTRL key while clicking on multiple subcategories). Then click “go” to produce a list of all of the journals in your selected category and subcategory.

By Source
To browse journals by source (i.e., the publisher or database from which it is available), click the “Other Options” tab. Then choose one of the publishers or databases listed in the “source” box, and click “go.” This will generate a list of all of the journal titles from the specified source. You may narrow your results by choosing a subject category in addition to a source, and then clicking “go.”
