Common Access Problems
I Can't Get Into the Databases! - Common Access Problems
You may need to read the whole page to find an answer to your problem.
Do I need a Username and Password to access the databases?
- Access to Library databases is restricted to current Lesley students, faculty
and staff. To gain access, you need a myLesley login. (No more separate username
and password!) In myLesley, click the my library tab on
the upper right of the screen. Look for the Finding Articles box in the upper
left and click Search library databases - see example below.
myLesley offers a 24/7 help line at 1-888-mylesley
(1-888-695-3753) for assistance if you:
- have trouble logging in to myLesley
- can’t remember your myLesley username and/or password
- never received a myLesley username and password
- or have any other questions about how to use myLesley

Macintosh Users
- Mac OS 10: your best options are Safari, Firefox, or Netscape 7.1.
PC (Windows) Users
AOL - America Online Users
- Most versions of the browsers provided by AOL are NOT compatible with the
databases. You can continue to use AOL for access, but once you have connected
to the Internet you should minimize the AOL screen/window and use a different
browser like Firefox, Netscape, or Internet Explorer.
To use another Web browser within AOL, follow these steps:
1. Open up AOL and sign on. Make it small.
2. Open up Firefox, Netscape, or Internet Explorer, login to myLesley,
and click the my library tab. Click Search library databases link.

I Have a Firewall, Security Software, Etc.
- If you have a firewall or high security on your computer - in the browser,
operating system or security software - you may have problems accessing the
databases.
Options:
First, clear the cache and history in your Web browser by following
the instructions below under More Solutions
to Access Problems.
1. Disable the firewall temporarily while searching the databases. If
you do this, you should only visit the Lesley Web site and databases
so you will not be subject to viruses or advertisements.
2. Use a computer without firewall at a friend's or family member's house,
or at your public library.
3. Visit a local library that offers similar databases. The Infotrac databases
are available in many public and university libraries around the U.S.

More Solutions to Access Problems
- Clear your Web browser's cache and history: First, exit the Lesley Web
site and go to a different Web site, then:
If you get bumped out of a database, you may have timed out. Go back
to the Databases by Subject Page and click the database name again.
If you can't get into a particular database, there may be too many people
using the database at once. Some databases limit the number of students
that can search at the same time. Wait a few minutes and try again, or
search another database.

I'm Having Problems with One or a Few
Databases
In general, if you can access some databases but not others, we
recommend trying a different Web browser. See Browsers to
download Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape.
NetLibrary
- Internet Explorer is the best browser for searching e-books on
NetLibrary.
