Teacher Workshops
Looking to fine-tune your teaching skills? Using the principles and practices employed at The Learning Lab @ Lesley, these sessions are designed to enhance the skills of both experienced and novice teachers or tutors. Contact the Coordinator of Tuoring Services at the Learning Lab to arrange trainings. Offerings include:

  • Spelling: What Is Important and What You Can Do to Help
Participants will discuss some of the major causes of poor spelling and will then look at some cases studies to practice making tentative diagnoses. Many practical ways of addressing different spelling problems will be discussed and demonstrated. Participants are encouraged to bring favorite materials to share and difficult cases to discuss.
  • Math and LD: The Common Issues and Tutoring Approaches to Address Them
Several personal stories will help participants better understand the problems of persons with LD who have math difficulties. Expert guest tutors will demonstrate some useful techniques for addressing some of the thorniest math issues.
  • Unmasking LD: Conditions or Behaviors that Mask LD and What You Can Do to Uncover the Real Problem
Sulking, clowning, second language issues, depression, illness, refusal to cooperate--all of these and more can be masks which can hide LD. Tutors will discuss various ways to look behind the masks in order to tutor more effectively.
