Consultation Services

Parent Consultation
You will meet with a member of our Clinical Staff to help you clarify the concerns or questions you have about your child. After hearing your concerns and learning about your hopes and wishes for your child, we will offer you several specific suggestions that you may wish to try out on your own or in cooperation with the school or agency involved with your child. We may at this time discuss other services available at the Learning Lab, or we may refer you to an outside agency that offers specialized services not available at the Lab.

Record Review
This service is available after you have had a parent consultation (see above). A member of our Clinical Staff will conduct a thorough assessment of existing test data, health and developmental histories and other associated records and files. We will tell you whether we think that the assessments that have been completed are sufficiently current, complete and accurate. We will also let you know if we feel that additional information is needed to generate a comprehensive clinical profile of your child. We will also generate a list of recommendations regarding next steps we think you should take. You will receive a written summary of our findings and recommendations.

School Consultation
Members of our staff are available to provide consultation to administrators, teachers and other professionals working with a child. Consultation can focus on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:

• Curriculum modification and adaptation in the inclusive classroom
• Helping Students with transition (between classes, grades or programs)
• Developing or evaluating behavioral plans
• Assessing the physical environment of the classroom to maximize learning
• Setting up or running "Circle of Friends" groups to enhance understanding and social skills
• Helping school staff and parents have more effective communication
