The first person in her family to go to college, Tameka landed a teaching
job in Brooklyn, NY before she even graduated. But it’s no surprise
success has come early for her — she was inspired to teach kids back
in junior high when she was first being taught African dance. She’s
thrilled to have found equally inspiring teachers at Lesley.
"The student and faculty relationships at Lesley are awesome and the
coursework really taught me how to think," she says. "Social Problems,
taught by Ann-Charlotte Hoagstadius, especially showed me how to observe
and evaluate things going on around the world. I think that class alone
changed my life."
Tameka’s initiative was also evident outside the classroom. She shared
her knowledge of African dance by creating a workshop for her fellow Wendell
House residents. "Lesley changed my life in so many ways, I wanted
to give something back."
