Lesley College Majors
Communication TechnologyThe major in Communication Technology combines professional training with courses in computer technology. It prepares students for fields in developing technologies, including web design, desktop publishing, e-commerce, marketing communications and advertising, and computer graphics. In the foundation courses, students study basic theories and issues related to communication in a technology-driven global community. They develop the ability to use technology to create, collect, analyze, and communicate information. They also learn the fundamental skills of image creation and design. As students move into upper-level courses, they explore more complex software programs and learn how information can impact decision making, aid problem solving, help to identify new opportunities, and influence behavior. Students choose one of two tracks: Visual Communication Technology or Integrated Business Communication. The first track focuses on the visual and creative aspects of communication through graphics, web design, interactive media, and desktop publishing. Students can use their electives to build a concentration in the arts, marketing, advanced technology applications, art history, or film. The second track focuses on business communications with choices in information systems, marketing and advertising, and electives that provide greater depth in understanding the global marketplace. Field placements, seminars, and the senior capstone course provide students with the opportunity to synthesize and apply their proficiencies as they further analyze the impact of changing technologies on communication and human interactions. Students select field sites from public, private, and not-for-profit organizations in the Metro-Boston area. Cooperating field sites include organizations such as Amnet Boston, Arnold Worldwide, the Charles Hotel, the Department of Health and Human Services, FOX 25, the Guild Associates, IBM, ICC Wireless, Lesley University Athletic Department, Margaret Fuller House, Museum of Science, the Rendon Group, and TRACS, Inc. updated 10/10/06 | 03:53 PM
