Engage in the exciting and inspiring Study of Life: Biology!
The Biology major prepares individuals for graduate-level training in biology, and/or for entry-level employment in a broad spectrum of scientific and academic careers. Students who complete this major will gain scientific literacy, as well as broad and deep knowledge of biology, with strong foundations in mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Students gain first-hand research and internship experience, helping them develop the essential thinking skills necessary for understanding and studying biological processes from multiple perspectives. Student research, performed in collaboration with faculty and with Cambridge communities, will contribute to the understanding of local urban ecosystems. Immersion in the field will lead to transformative thinking about all living things and their complex relations with their environment. Exciting opportunities for travel study and study abroad to remote tropical environments are also available.Prepare for a wide array of exciting and dynamic career opportunities in Biology
The program provides a required core of six classes that provide depth in understanding the theory and methodology of the discipline as well as strong background in mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Building on core classes, students will have a choice of electives in areas of their personal interest. As in all Lesley College majors, students will take twelve credits of internship related work in which they will connect theory and practice. The culminating courses in the major are a research internship and seminar and Environmental Field Research in which students gain valuable field research experience. The program also includes an advanced track that is strongly recommended for students who want to pursue graduate studies in the biological sciences. Exciting and unparalleled opportunities for travel study to remote tropical environments (e.g. Guyana) also exist.
