Re-designing our journal

Since it was founded twelve years ago, in 1996, The Lesley Journal of Pedagogy, Pluralism and Practice has published the works of outstanding scholars, practitioners and writers of literature. Among those who have published in our journal are education scholars Maxine Greene, from Columbia University and Ira Shore from Staten Island College, philosopher and theologian Cornel West from Princeton, and art therapy expert and artist Shaun McNiff from Lesley University. In 1997, shortly after his passing, the journal published a special section in memory of Paulo Freire’s life and work. In terms of literature, we have published several pieces, including a short story by renowned Puerto Rican writer Luis López Nieves and a poem by Lesley University professor Anne Pluto.

The Lesley Journal offers a highly accessible medium to disseminate scholarship and each issue is published on the Internet to grant easy access to the Lesley academic community, as well as to learners and teachers outside Lesley.

After twelve years the editorial board decided that the time was right for the journal to develop a new visual identity and a research friendly website. While we had been satisfied with the “look” of our publication, designed in 1996 by former Lesley University professor Richard Rogers, we felt that we should search for a new visual design while also creating a site that would be, in addition to visually appealing, an easily researchable site. The editorial board struck gold when Lesley’s Art Institute of Boston design professor Kristina Lamour Sansone responded favorably to our request for help. Prof. Lamour Sansone and her design students took on the project during the spring semester of 2008. That spring, Kristina Lamour Sansone, executive editor Pablo Navarro-Rivera and members of the editorial board of The Lesley Journal embarked on the effort to re-design the publication.

The new design, according to Kristina, should be ready this fall, certainly in time for the fall 2008 issue, a debut that we are all eagerly anticipating.

A New Executive Editor is Elected

After several years as Executive Editor Prof. Danielle Georges left the helm to devote more time to her responsibilities as interim associate dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences. Danielle served well as editor and our journal is a better one as a result. To replace Danielle the board elected Prof. Pablo Navarro-Rivera, who in addition to being one of the founding members of the board had also served as editor of the publication in the 1990’s.
