Ira Shor

Ira Shor is a Professor at the City University of New York. Dr. Shor's books include Critical Teaching and Everyday Life (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 3rd Printing, 1987), Culture Wars: School and Society in the Conservative Restoration, 1969-1984 (New York: Routledge and Kegan Paul/Methuen, 1986), and Freire for the Classroom: a Source Book for Liberatory Teaching (Portsmouth: Boynton/Cook Publishers,1987). The manuscript published here is a slightly revised version of Ira Shor's "INTRODUCTION" to the first of three volumes he co-edited with Caroline Pari in tribute to the life and work of Paulo Freire: Critical Literacy in Action, (Heinemann Press, 1999).
