COURSE INFO
- START: The Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women will take place on the Boston Common Parade Grounds located at the corner of Beacon Street and Charles Street. The 10-kilometer race equates to 6.2 miles.
- ARRIVE by 10:30AM to give yourself time to warm up, store your belongings, and enjoy the race day activities. If your friends or family want to participate in the 1K for Kids (starting at 10:30AM), plan to arrive by 10AM.
- BIB NUMBERS must be pinned to the front of your shirt. Do not cover your bib number with another shirt.Your bib number contains a microchip which identifies you and tracks your time. Be sure to have the bib on when you cross the start line and the finish line. Details about the timing technology are available on the race website, www.tuftshealthplan.com/tufts10k.
- FOOD/WATER: Before and after the race, sponsors in the Expo area will offer samples of many foods. Water will be provided at six water stations along the route (at each mile). Water, bagels, and fruit will be available to all participants at the finish line.
- BATHROOMS: There are six (6) restrooms on the course, located at approximately the halfway mark. However, to save yourself from waiting in line during the race, organizers recommend using the bathrooms on Boston Common before starting the race.
- IPODs: To ensure the safety of yourself and other runners, do not run with an iPod or other personal music device.
- PETS are NOT allowed in the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women.
- RESULTS: Race results for participants who complete the course within 1 hour and 30 minutes will be posted on Boston Common on race day. Full results will be available after the race on www.coolrunning.com.
RACE ETIQUETTE
- Plan to use the bathroom before the race begins. While there are portable bathrooms on the race course, they are at approximately the halfway mark and there is frequently a waiting line.
- Place yourself appropriately at the start line. If you are walking, run slower than a 10-minute-mile pace, or have a baby stroller, go to the back of the starting group (at the top of the Beacon Street hill). Allow plenty of time to get in place, as there will be thousands of participants doing the same.
- If you are running or walking in a group, do not line up more than two people across. This will ensure that others will be able to pass you without difficulty.
- If you are walking with a baby stroller, place yourself at the back of the race. Do not crisscross through the pack. Try not to bump others' feet with the stroller wheels and remember to call out to surrounding walkers when you are passing. Following these guidelines will prevent accidents as well as avoid harm to yourself, your child, and other participants.
- If you need to stop for any reason, move to the side of the road or off the course.
- At the water stations, thank the volunteers and be sure not to throw water on your fellow participants when dumping your cup. It's OK to throw your cup on the ground; volunteers will clear the streets of all cups after the race.
- Be aware of those around you. If you see someone who looks like they need help, tell a race worker or volunteer and take note of which mile marker they were closest to.
- Once you have crossed the finish line, KEEP MOVING! Make your way off the course and then check your time, stretch, etc. Refreshments will be available on the Common after the race. Be proud of yourself! Crossing the finish line is a huge accomplishment!
