Integrative Holistic Health Advanced Professional Certificate

The Self Designed Master's Degree Program also offers a 15-credit Advanced Professional Certificate in Integrative Holistic Health. This certificate is open to trained professionals in holistic health and wellness, including acupuncturists, yoga practitioners, massage therapists, "energy medicine" practitioners, occupational therapists, nurses, physical therapists, and students studying herbology and cross-cultural healing systems.

Ways of Knowing in Holistic Health

This course creates a framework for exploring how we know what we know in the area of holistic health, and considers changing paradigms for making meaning. Eastern and Western paradigms and approaches are explored. Participants examine a particular integrative healing system from an epistemological point of view and present their findings in class.

Interdisciplinary Perspectives in Holistic Health Studies

This course explores theoretical and technical perspectives in the major disciplines of holistic health and the uses of the imagination, arts and body-oriented psychotherapy as diagnostic and augmenting therapeutic methods in holistic health. Spirituality: Integrating Factor in Mental and Physical Health

Western scientists and social scientists have developed new descriptions of reality remarkably similar to the essential teachings of the world's major spiritual traditions. These models have led to a re-examination of spirituality and its impact on health. This course examines these models and the experiential methods of healing that integrate elements from spiritual disciplines with modern body-mind psychotherapies.

Creative Movement and Dance Therapy: Introduction

This course offers experiences in basic concepts of movement therapy as it relates to working in a variety of settings with people who have special needs. It is an experiential course where students can explore and attempt to discover how each individual's authentic movement is a source of tension release, and learn beneficial methods of appropriately transferring and sharing this knowledge. Drumming, Rhythm and Healing

Yoga and Therapeutic Touch

Anatomy and Kinesiology

Anatomy is a Western science that names body parts. The body parts comprise the structural network, which makes up the skeletal, muscular, respiratory and fluid systems. This course combines anatomical-kinesiological study with experiential practices. The subject matter is approached via a movement workshop format. Classes included movement observation and practical strategies for reflective and guided movement activities.

Traditions and Cultures: A Journey Through Navajoland: Healing, Myth, and Ceremony

This class is a week-long field experience through Navajoland, which will begin and end in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Throughout the week we will be in discussion with many Navajos, visit ancient Anasazi ruins, experience healing rituals, and talk to members of the tribal government, as we travel through the reservation's buttes, messas and dirt highways.

This course provides an opportunity for assessing learning and reflecting on the relationship of learning to current and future professional practices. It includes the issues of leadership development in each student's owns field and collaboration among practitioners of various disciplines.
