Interdisciplinary Studies Program Required Core Course DescriptionsGINTD 5011 Ways of Knowing: How We Make Meaning Interdisciplinary explorations of how we know what we know--modes of inquiry in the arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences and their application in academic disciplines. Addresses how we learn from the past, new methods that influence the disciplines, and approaches for critical thinking in their own fields of study and for individualized research projects. GINTD 5012 People and Place: Interdisciplinary Perspectives This course develops an understanding of interdisciplinary study through thematic readings, discussion, writing, and case study activities. Students design their degree Study Plan, including the sequence of topics they will investigate, relating it to professional practice and/or academic goals. GINTC 6003 Intercultural Helping Skills (for Integrative Holistic Health Specialization) Culturally sensitive experiential training in order to develop effective interpersonal/group helping skills in an educational or human service setting. GINTD 6043 Feminist Thought: Multiple Perspectives (for Women's Studies Specialization) Examines womens lives and relationships from both structural and personal perspectives. Feminist theory honors experience as away of knowing. Students consider the interplay of race, class, sexual orientation, religion and other elements of cultural identity and power in the experience of women. Students examine both oppression and the positive responses women have developed to empower themselves ans explore personal ans systemic relationships between and across cultural groups. Students projects synthesizes academic and social social action components. GINTD 6999 Directed Study (for Women's Studies Specialization) GINTD 7001 Praxis: Integrating Theory into Practice Praxis is the dynamic of reflection and action; theory and practice. This course offers students near the completion of their graduate program the opportunity to assess their learning, and reflect upon that learning in relationship to current and future professional practice, and toward the development of the final Thesis project. GINTD 7005 Thesis/Integrative Final Project Students complete a thesis project as the culmination of their individualized study. The thesis project enables students to investigate a topic in their specialization in-depth and lay the foundation for professional advancement and further study.
