Interdisciplinary Studies Program

Weekend model

Weekend modelIn the Weekend Model, students meet for two weekends (Friday evenings from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and then again on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) in September and November (fall semester) and January and March (spring semester).

Each semester students take one core course, and they each design a coherent plan of individualized study of six to nine credits with the guidance and collaboration of faculty advisors. Each student receives on-going, personalized support for the entire semester from their own Faculty Mentor. Dialogue with peers and faculty takes place through regular electronic communication. Graduates return to present their Thesis/Integrative Final Project to the community.

Students can create a specialization that draws from their own interests and passions. Or they can choose from one of the following:

  • Women's Studies
  • Integrated Holistic Health
  • Interdisciplinary Pedagogy
  • Adult Learning and Development

The Weekend Model offers a flexible and innovative format for self-directed adults whose work and family commitments and individual learning styles or preferences require an alternative to the traditional classroom approach.
