I am Associate Professor and core faculty in the Expressive Therapies Ph.D. Program in the Division of Expressive Therapies. I received my Ph.D. from The University of Arizona, my Master's in Dance Therapy from New York University, and my B.A. from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. I am President of the American Dance Therapy Association, and Editor-in-Chief of The Arts in Psychotherapy. I am also a contributor and co-editor of Dance/Movement Therapists in Action: A Working Guide to Research Options (2004, Charles C. Thomas Publishers).

My clinical work has spanned populations such as adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses and children and adolescents with trauma and substance abuse issues. My doctoral degree is in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Measurement and Methodology. I have worked as a research methodologist and research consultant, and have taught doctoral and other graduate courses in dance therapy, research methods, and statistics to students from many disciplines in the US and Europe.

My interests are promoting dance therapy and expressive therapies research that uses the broad range of available methods; exploring use of descriptive statistical techniques such as multidimensional scaling; research on movement disorders and their diagnostic potential; and research dissemination, particularly incorporating research thinking and resources into expressive therapies clinical practices.
