Sylvia R. Cowan, Faculty and Program Coordinator, is also principal of Cowan Associates, a consulting firm specializing in intercultural and international management training, international relocation, and organizational development. In addition to teaching at Lesley, Cowan has more than 25 years of experience consulting and providing training for educators, business leaders, and other professionals. She developed and directed Training Services for two major international and intercultural consulting companies. She has managed large international development projects, worked in both private sector and non-profit organizations, and taught at university, secondary, and primary levels. She has provided training for more than 500 international managers and more that 1500 educational administrators, counselors, and teachers. She has also worked with a variety of organizations on organizational change, and directed numerous curriculum development projects.

Cowan earned her Doctorate in Organizational, Humanistic, and Developmental Studies at Boston University, and her M.A. in Linguistics/TESOL at the University of Hawaii. She graduated magna cum laude from La Grange College with majors in Spanish and English. She has also studied at the University of Spain in Madrid and was awarded a Fulbright for study at the University of Costa Rica in San Jose.
