I am an artist educator, a core faculty member in the Creative Arts in Learning Division and consultant in integrated arts education. During the past 28 years, it has been exciting for me to be a faculty member with the Creative Arts in Learning Division. My love of teaching has deepened by working in this division. I like to work with artists, educators and students to create collaborative learning communities where their concerns, creativity and challenges can be investigated. I am interested in art practices that strengthen the voices of children and teachers in educational settings and that allow them to engage in critical thinking and dialogue. The role that the arts have played and can play in social change is a central concern of mine. I have become increasingly interested in exploring ways the arts can be used to facilitate issues of diversity in education and to enhance multicultural arts practices. I teach the following courses both on campus and in our national program: Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Arts, History and Social Studies; Drama in Learning; Movement in Learning; Integrated Arts Approaches to Learning; and An Arts Approach to Multicultural Education. I also teach the Advanced Professional Seminar in the CAGS Program in Georgia. Starting in the fall 2005, I have taken on the position of faculty advisor for the Marietta CAGS Program in Georgia. I am a course mentor and faculty mentor for 6100 Integrated Arts Approaches in the Curriculum. I am a faculty advisor for students seeking to obtain a Master of Education Degree leading to Initial Teacher License in the joint school of Education and Creative Arts in Learning Early Childhood & Elementary Programs. |
