Division of Expressive Therapies

Master of Arts in Expressive Therapies - Dance Therapy and Mental Health Counseling Specialization (60 credits)

The dance therapy specialization trains students in the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process that furthers the emotional, cognitive and physical integration of the individual.

Pre-requisites needed to be considered for acceptance into this specialization include:

six credits of psychology (3 credits abnormal psychology, 3 credits of developmental psychology): anatomy & kinesiology and an introduction to dance therapy course or workshop; extensive dance experience including modern dance; a 7 to 10 minute dance video of the applicant is accepted in lieu of a dance and movement audition; all pre-requisites are required to have grades of B or better.

  • The specialization can be completed in 24 months (including two summer terms) or over three academic years of full-time study.
  • 1050 hours of field experience are required.
