Off-Campus ProgramsSince the early 1980s, the Division of Counseling and Psychology has offered master's degree programs at off-campus sites regionally and nationally. The off-campus programs provide adult learners with the opportunity to earn a master's degree in the weekend intensive format. Currently, the Division offers the MA in Counseling Psychology, Professional Counseling Specialization program regionally in Barnstable (at the Cape Cod Community College) Fall River, and Lawrence, Massachusetts. The off-campus program of study, including electives, is predetermined and offered in a sequence pre-approved by the faculty. A member of the Counseling and Psychology core faculty serves as Faculty Advisor for each off-campus cohort. Generally, the Faculty Advisor will be the instructor of the initial course, GPSYC 6200 Orientation to Professional Psychology (OPP). The Site Coordinator is the liaison between main campus and the local site, and deals with administrative issues such as course registration, syllabi distribution and course text orders. Courses are held in an intensive weekend format: Fridays from 5 to 10pm, Saturdays from 8am to 5pm (or 9am to 6pm) and Sundays from 8am to 5pm (or 9am to 6pm). Students typically attend classes one weekend a month and complete the degree in approximately three and a half years. Each course meets on two weekends (3 or 4 weekends apart). The exceptions to this schedule are the first course GPSYC 6200 Orientation to Professional Psychology, the last course GPSYC 6211 Professional Integrative Seminar, and the Clinical Practice and Supervision courses (GPSYC 7710 and GPSYC 7711). The Clinical Practice and Supervision courses are taken concurrently with the field experiences, which begin in September and end in May. These small group seminar courses meet once a week for three hours on a weekday evening at the Lesley site at which the program is offered. All courses meet at the program's designated off-campus site and are taught by Lesley core and adjunct faculty members. Students in a cohort group form a learning community that works together. Besides being learners together, graduates report having formed relationships with other cohort members that endure, personally and professionally, long after completion of the master's degree program. Program of Study: Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology Program, Professional Counseling Specialization (60 credits)
