Creative Arts in LearningM.Ed. in Visual Arts (PreK-8 or 5-12) leading to Initial Teacher LicensureStudents are expected to develop a portfolio to document their growth during the period of their professional preparation. Students in Initial Visual Arts teaching licensure programs should plan to collect and reflect upon at least one item from each course for inclusion in their portfolio. Details about the art education portfolio process at Lesley are presented in the portfolio booklet [pdf]. The portfolio is an assessment tool for the student and his/her professors, and by the end of the program will provide concrete proof that the student has met the required state standards for teacher licensure. The final portfolio will contain evidence of successfully meeting the standards and licensure pre-service performance assessment for Massachusetts Visual Arts Initial licensure as a hard copy and in CD format. In addition to coursework, you will be completing a 15-week full-time field experience in the public school classroom. You will be keeping a journal to assist you in reflecting upon your day-to-day practice, and a log of the hours spent on each related activity. You will document the experiences in the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Preservice Performance Assessment.
