How Political Parties Shape Our Next Presidents?
Overview
Students will research and learn about the 5 parties in the 2004 election and the parties’ presidential and vice-presidential candidates and find out their positions on important issues in the election. Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens, and Independent/Reform. Students will research and learn about the origins and histories of these 5 political parties and why they were formed. This unit seeks to have students understand a variety of issues that Americans choose among in deciding who they are going to vote for in the presidential election and the role of the parties in making that choice.
Essential Questions
- - Why are there different political parties in the United States?
- - What is the history behind the formation of each party that the students will be studying?
- - What are the ideas and issues that each party promotes?
