Practicum PrerequisitesIn order to do a practicum, students must be officially accepted into a program and, if accepted conditionally, must have fulfilled all conditions. Before planning a practicum students must:
All on-campus students must make an appointment with Jean Gumpert in the Field Placement Office to arrange their practicum placement. Off-campus cohort students should contact Yvonne Zollman Mosca to discuss practicum arrangements. Once a placement has been made, students must observe the desired class and meet with the supervising practitioner to make sure that the placement is mutually agreeable. Students should bring a current resume to that meeting. After the meeting, on-campus students should notify Jean Gumpert or Margaret (Peggy) Maki and off-campus cohort students should contact Yvonne Zollman Mosca to confirm the placement. School districts have a variety of requirements for student teachers, which may include immunization records and criminal background checks (CORI’s). Please inquire about these when you meet with the teacher or principal, and find out where requested information should be sent. Please note: students who receive Permission to Register from the Field Placement Office must register in person at the Registrar’s Office, University Hall, 3rd fl. The practicum and seminar is a six-credit course with an additional field experience fee of $395 and an insurance fee of $35 (Note: Summer Compass fees may be slightly higher) to be paid at the time of registration. We hope your practicum will be a positive experience for you. Please contact us with any questions you may have. 09/10 updated 11/04/11 | 01:32 PM
