Massachusetts tests for Educational Licensure (MTEL) Lesley University Test Policy
For all Graduate programs leading to Initial Licensure*
- All students must pass the Communication and Literacy MTEL prior to registering for the student teaching/practicum course or for the final practicum course.
- For the licenses for which it is required, students must pass the Foundations of Reading MTEL prior to registering for the student teaching/practicum course or for the final practicum course.
- All students must take any other MTEL tests required for licensure in their fields prior to registering for the student teaching/practicum course.
- All students must pass any other MTEL tests required for licensure in their fields in order to successfully complete and receive a grade for the student teaching/practicum course.
For all Adult Learning Division programs leading to Initial Licensure*
- All students must pass the Communication and Literacy Test in order to be fully admitted to the Certification Component and prior to entering the Education Minor.
- For the licenses for which it is required, students must pass the Foundations of Reading MTEL prior to registering for the student teaching/practicum course or for the final practicum course.
- All students must take any other MTEL tests required for licensure in their fields prior to registering for the student teaching/practicum course.
- All students must pass any other MTEL tests required for licensure in their fields in order to successfully complete the student teaching/practicum course.
*Policy changes that are going into effect for the entire university on the following dates:
- As of September 1, 2009, all new applicants seeking admission to an initial licensure program must submit evidence of having taken, or registered for, the Communication and Literacy MTEL.
- Effective Fall 2010, all students seeking a first Initial License must pass all portions of the MTEL(s) required for their licensure program to be eligible for student teaching or practicum. (Please note: This applies to anyone doing a practicum beginning in Fall 2010).
Students must submit legible and complete photocopies of their official MTEL score reports to the Field Placement Office prior to beginning their practicum. Mail to Field Placement, Lesley University SOE, 29 Everett Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 or deliver in person to University Hall, Room 2-074.
Note: Scores "reported to Lesley" do not reach us in a format appropriate for your file. You must send or bring us electronic or hard copies of your official score reports.
