Dr. Richard Cass is currently the Comprehensive Learning Center Specialist for students in grades 3-5 at the Michael Driscoll School in Brookline, MA. Rick has been a special educator for over thirty years and has taught in a variety of school settings and different grade levels. He completed his dissertation, Factors That Influence Novice Special Educators' Identification of Learning Disabilities at Boston College in 2007 and received the Ernest Caverly Award in recognition of his professional achievements and contributions to Brookline Public Schools in 2011. A member of the Council for Exceptional Children and the Council for Learning Disabilities, Rick's research interests include Universal Design for Learning (UDL), educational assessment, and interventions for reading and writing. Rick strongly believes that a teacher can be the single, most important factor affecting student achievement and encourages all educators to consider this idea when working with others.
