Dr. Margaret (Meg) Lippert joined the Lesley community in 2006 after many years in the public and independent school sector. Her experience includes 10 years of classroom teaching including teaching in Tanzania and Guatemala; founding and directing a non-graded, open classroom elementary school in New Jersey; 7 years as Literature Consultant for Macmillan/McGraw Hill School Publishing Company; and 4 decades as a professional storyteller on 6 continents. The author of 22 books of multicultural folk tales, she wrote her dissertation on "Teaching Through Stories.” She taught courses in Children’s Literature, Teaching Through Stories, Curriculum Development, Social Studies, Supervision, and Models of Teaching, at Teachers College Columbia University, where she was an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Preservice Program in Elementary Education. Believing "everyone is a storyteller, especially teachers, who already have tried-and-true oral presentation skills," Meg focuses her Lesley course, Cultural History Through Storytelling, on storytelling activities and games. Students emerge from her classes as passionate storytellers with ideas, resources, confidence, and stories galore. Since 2012 she has been the Director of Storytelling for Homer Learning, a literacy app for the ipad, for which she has written dozens of multicultural folk tales.
