Education: PhD, The Ohio State University
June T. Fox earned a PhD in the Philosophy of Education from The Ohio State University in 1967, with a specialization in Foundations of Education and Curriculum Theory and a focus on the works of John Dewey and Jerome Bruner.As a Lesley faculty member, Dr. Fox stressed the important role of education in a democratic society. As dean, she fostered a sense of community, respect, and support among the faculty. Her consistent encouragement of faculty teaching and research was indispensable in the success of numerous large-scale school initiatives, including the Technology in Education program, the Cambridge/Lesley Literacy Project, the Center for Reading Recovery, the Multicultural Institute for Change, and the Say Yes to Education project. One of her major goals, she once said, was to "create great teachers," the kind who can "help save a nation."At the state level, Dr. Fox worked with the Department of Education on many key task forces, including the Boston Higher Education Partnership Grants, Lucretia Crocker Fellowship Program, and Turning Points Project. Since her retirement, she has been an active proponent and participant in continuing education for elders through The Institute of Learning and Retirement at Northwestern University.
