Emily became an adjunct instructor for Lesley in 2011. She teaches in the Masters of Education program. She has also facilitated a number of math education courses since 2010, including Functions and Algebra II (CMATH 6110) and Geometry and Measurement II (CMATH 6112).She is a full-time math teacher at Woonsocket Middle School in Woonsocket, RI and has been there for seven years. She has taught grades 6 through 8 in the middle school and has worked with students from resource through accelerated. Emily has taught two after-school programs including “7th Grade Academic Lab,” in which she worked with students failing in their second year of Grade 7 and helped to promote them to eighth grade, and “Algebra in the Real World,” where she is currently working with seventh and eighth grade students to build their knowledge of basic algebra before they enter the high school. She has also collaborated with teachers from two other RI districts to write units of study for the Common Core State Standards with the help of the Dana Center at the University of Texas. Prior to teaching in Woonsocket, Emily taught a basic mathematics concepts course at Rhode Island College.Emily earned her first master’s in secondary education from Rhode Island College and her second master’s in math education from Lesley University. Her undergraduate work at Rhode Island College was in mathematics. She has a certificate in secondary education (7-12) with a concentration in mathematics, a middle school endorsement (5-8), and an English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement. Emily is a lifelong learner and believes that we all learn something new every day.
