TEACHER CERTIFICATION FOR EDUCATORS in MINNESOTA
Are you a current educator in Minnesota and interested in learning more about the process to add a level or an additional field to your teaching license? If so, read more to help guide you through the process.
In order for an educator to add a licensure field to an existing license (a life license; a current nonvocational entrance, nonrenewable, or professional license; or a current entrance or continuing secondary vocational license), you must complete a preparation program leading to licensure in the chosen field at an institution approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching.
An applicant adding a licensure field to an existing Minnesota classroom teaching license must pass the MTLE test of content knowledge for the new licensure field, which consists of two subtests with the exception of Elementary content knowledge, which consists of three subtests.
Application to add a licensure field to an existing teaching license.
Should you have additional questions on educator licensure, contact the Minnesota Department of Education.
Authorization and Educator Licensure in Minnesota
Authorization: Lesley University is authorized to offer programs in Minnesota based on the following process: Lesley University is registered as a private institution with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. Registration is not an endorsement of the institution. Registration does not mean that credits earned at the institution can be transferred to other institutions or that the quality of the educational programs would meet the standards of every student, educational institution, or employer.
Educator Licensure: Higher education authorization and educator licensure approval are separate entities. For more information on educator licensure, visit the
Minnesota Department of Education.
