Expected outcomes for graduates of Lesley's graduate Early Childhood programs.
We want our
graduates to be well-prepared for the early childhood classroom. To help reach that goal, we have put a system in
place to track student progress and ensure continuous
assignments that address competencies linked to state and professional standards have been developed for every course, and professors give students actionable feedback on
their progress based on these assignments.
Has knowledge of central theories of children’s cognitive, social, emotional and moral development. Analyzes of the roles and significance of inclusive classrooms and schools in a democratic society, including knowledge of the diversity and reality of children’s backgrounds and the importance of families in learning process.Plans and implements curriculum based on documentation and understanding of young children and how they learn. Collects and uses data to understand children and plan curricula that support engaging learning experiences. Facilitates inquiry-based learning among children, engaging them in challenging, stimulating and developmentally appropriate activities, and welcoming and incorporating multiple perspectives to extend learning. Provides direct instruction and behavioral support as appropriate.Promotes children’s use and enjoyment of the arts, technology, math, science, languages and literacy.Creates an inclusive classroom culture where a community of learners works together with a spirit of inquiry, kindness, respect and celebration of differences. Designs an engaging, language rich classroom environment that supports diverse young learners and provides universal access to curriculum. Works in partnership with diverse families and communities as well as with school-based and community professionals to support children’s learning and well-being. Collaborates with colleagues to better understand children, their families, their communities, and culturally responsive teaching and learning.Reflects on culturally sensitive teaching practices, values and beliefs.Demonstrates a classroom presence that is thoughtful, reflective, respectful, provocative, and kind.
