Keynote Speakers
Dr. Irene C. Fountas
Author and Professor, Lesley University, Cambridge
Irene Fountas is a Professor in the School of Education at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, where she directs research-based literacy projects. She has been a classroom teacher, language arts specialist, and consultant in school districts across the nation and abroad. A recipient of several awards for her contributions to literacy, Irene Fountas has co-authored numerous books and articles related to language and literacy teaching with Gay Su Pinnell. Their latest publications are the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, Grades K-8 and The Continuum of Literacy Learning, Grades K-8: Behaviors and Understandings to Notice, Teach and Support.
Dr. Mary Howard
Educational Consultant and Author
Mary Howard is known throughout North America as a leading expert in literacy, presenting seminars in all fifty states and across Canada. She has worked with countless educators to create a research-based literacy program grounded in the current brain research. An educator for more than thirty years, she combines years of classroom experience as an elementary grade 1-6 special educator, grade K-12 reading tutor, reading specialist, and Reading Recovery teacher with a multitude of experiences as a reading consultant, university reading instructor, professional storyteller, and author.
Conference Program Highlights
Participants will attend keynotes by nationally-known literacy experts who will focus on:
- The critical features of the RTI model and how to use the model to create a rich framework for addressing literacy
