The Effective Literacy Coach

A 2- or 4-week training taught by Irene Fountas and Lesley Faculty!

Join one of the leaders in the field of literacy for intensive work on issues facing today's literacy coaches. In this training you will learn:

  • The critical attributes of a healthy, professional learning community
  • Various models of coaching and professional development
  • How to observe and analyze teaching
  • How to help teachers use data to inform decisionmaking when teaching
  • How to organize for coaching and professional development sessions
  • Hoe to create an effective school-based literacy team
  • The relationship between literacy theory and real-world practice

Class Format

Training is offered in 2- or 4-week options. Classes meet on the training dates listed below. During the training you will work closely in interactive workshops and inquiry groups. There are also opportunities to observe coaching sessions.

Graduate Credits

There is an option for earning graduate-level credit with 4-week option from Lesley University for an additional cost.

2009-2010 Training Dates*

Week 1: August 17-21, 2009

Week 2: October 5-9, 2009

Week 3: December 7-11, 2009

Week 4: February 1-5, 2010

*Please note training can only be taken as one of the following options:
2-week option:  Weeks 1 & 2
4-week option: Weeks 1, 2, 3 & 4

Fee Structure

Two-week option: $2,750 (includes professional books and materials)

Four-week option: $4,800 (includes professional books and materials)
