District Literacy Coordinator Training

Are you interesting in making Literacy Collaborative a more important part of your career?

Training to become a district literacy coordinator is a two-year process. During year one, you will successfully complete literacy coordinator training. Year two involves training as a district-level trainer of literacy coordinators while serving as your school's literacy coordinator. Years three through five involve continued training and professional development.

Year Three Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in the professional development of trained literacy coordinators as provided by Lesley University
  • Attend and participate in the National Literacy Coordinator Institute
  • Attend yearly district training institute
  • Receive up to two on-site visits from a Lesley University trainer
  • Teach in a classroom for 2.5 - 3 hours daily for three consecutive days per week (priority should be given to expanding grade-level expertise)
  • Train 4 - 8 literacy coordinators
  • Observe guided meetings of in-training literacy coordinators
  • Supervise data collection for participating schools
  • Conduct meetings with school principals and other district administrators regarding implementation of Literacy Collaborative
  • Conduct training for Literacy Collaborative school teams in order to review program issues, data, and implementation
  • Plan for and provide leadership team training for schools that will train literacy coordinators the following year

Year Four and Five Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in the professional development for trained literacy coordinators
  • Attend and participate in the National Literacy Coordinators Institute
  • Attend the yearly district training institute
  • Teach in a classroom for 2.5 - 3 hours daily for a minimum of two consecutive days per week (priority should be given to expanding grade level expertise)
  • Provide monthly visits to trained literacy coordinators
  • Provide continuing professional development for trained literacy coordinators (one day per month)
  • Facilitate trained literacy coordinators' attendance at the National Literacy Coordinator Institute
  • Train four-to-eight literacy coordinators
  • Continue to meet with principals and administrators and to support school teams
  • Meet with trained Literacy Collaborative school teams to review program issues, data, and implementation
  • Supervise data collection for the district
  • Plan for and provide awareness sessions for schools that will train literacy coordinators the following year
