CREDit option process overview
The partner representative serves as the liaison for all communications regarding the process. Once there is agreement that a partnership will be mutually beneficial, a proposal/syllabus is developed according to University guidelines. Utilizing Lesley’s proposal/syllabus template, the representative either develops the proposal/syllabus, or works closely with the instructor to develop it. Academic content must meet the undergraduate or graduate level standards of the University. Fifteen contact hours are required for each credit granted. In addition, it’s expected that students will have two hours’ course work for each contact hour. The proposal/syllabus is submitted to the Director of Continuing Education. II) PROCESS FOR APPROVAL The proposal/syllabus is reviewed by designated faculty with subject matter expertise and the Director of Continuing Education. Their feedback is communicated to the partner representative. If enhancements are required, the representative ensures that they are incorporated in the proposal/syllabus, and resubmits it. The document is reviewed for inclusion of the feedback, and when ready, is sent to the Provost for final review and approval. Final approval for awarding Lesley credit lies with the Provost. If approval is granted, students enrolled in the course may earn Lesley University graduate or undergraduate credit. The number of credits and level of study is determined during the review process. III) MARKETING It’s recommended that information about the Lesley credit option be communicated as early as possible in the partner’s marketing process. All printed materials which mention Lesley University must be approved in advance of their use by the Director of Continuing Education. IV) REGISTRATION A confirmation of approval and a registration packet are sent to the partner representative, including registration procedures and forms. The representative is responsible for administering the forms, tuitions and fees, unless other arrangements have been made. The class list, forms, tuitions and fees are sent to the Division of Continuing Education before or immediately after the first class. V) REFUNDS A student must formally notify the Continuing Education Office by phone or in-person if they wish to drop a credit option course. VI) STUDENT EVALUATIONS Student evaluations are an important component of the credit option review process, and the continuation of the ability to grant Lesley credit. Lesley’s evaluation form is available for use. Partners may use their own form, as long as there is a close match with Lesley’s form. Copies of completed evaluation forms are sent to the Division of Continuing Education at the end of each course offering. VII) GRADES An official class grade sheet will be sent to the instructor by the Registrar’s Office. The instructor must assign each student a grade, and sign the grade sheet. Grades are due as soon as possible after the last class. The instructor assigns grades of A through F, INC (incomplete), NA (never attended), AW (administrative withdrawal), or P (pass) for all students. The incomplete grade is recorded only if an agreement has been reached between the instructor and the student regarding the work to be completed, and the timeframe. If a student’s name does not appear on the grade sheet, the instructor must add the student’s name and grade at the bottom of the sheet. Instructors should retain a copy of the grade sheet for their records. The signed grade sheet must be mailed to Jean Kellen, Registrar’s Office, Lesley University, 29 Everett Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. VIII) TRANSCRIPTS Transcripts will be available to students who request them 7-10 days after the Registrar’s Office receives the completed grade sheet. The fee for each transcript requested is $5 (check made out to Lesley University). Students wishing transcripts should:
IX) CREDIT OPTION RE-APPROVAL Re-approval is required by the Director of Continuing Education if additional sections of an approved course are planned. Re-approval is contingent upon the Director’s review of the status of the partnership, and the students’ evaluations of previous course offerings.
