ALUMNI HISTORYPutting People First for Over 90 YearsLesley University is nationally recognized for its responsive and innovative adult programs and for its leadership in teacher education. It has evolved since its founding in 1909 from a 2-year normal school to an institution today that awards degrees from associate (A.A.) to Ph.D. Over 85% of our graduates enter public service and people-serving professions such as teaching, counseling and human services. Lesley University continues to be the largest producer of elementary school teachers in Massachusetts. Our alumni continue to make an impact in many area, particularly in the areas of literacy, special needs, and early childhood education. The Alumni Association came into existence in 1937 with the election of Adele Gruener, class of 1920, as the first President. It continues to seek ways to connect all alumni in meaningful relationships to Lesley, to each other, and to the world in which we live. All graduates of Lesley University are members of the Lesley University Alumni Association. The bylaws of the Alumni Association state that "the purpose of the Association shall be to serve and extend the interests of Lesley University, to promote the spirit of fellowship among its graduates, former students and interested persons, and to further the mission of Lesley University." As a member of the Lesley University Alumni Association, you join more than 60,000 other individuals who have chosen, through their Lesley University education, to enter professions that put people first. The Association serves its alumni members by offering service opportunities to extend this responsiveness to the needs of society, as well as to promote a spirit of fellowship among Lesley University graduates. Alumni are valuable resources: in their professions, in their personal lives, in collaborative projects with other alumni, and in serving as mentors to current and future Lesley students. Through numerous activities and networking opportunities, the Lesley University Alumni Association serves this unique group. We encourage you to be an active part of the Alumni Association as you continue to grow personally and professionally. updated 01/14/05 | 03:31 PM
