Support the Urban Scholars Initiative

Closing the attainment gap starts with financial aid. But it doesn't end there.

A mission to unite and uplift all students.

Launched in 2013, Lesley University's Urban Scholars Initiative (USI) aims to make the dream of attending college a reality for low-income students in the Greater Boston area and beyond. In just three years, we’ve grown from a five-student pilot program into an initiative that supports the financial, emotional, and academic needs of dozens of young urban scholars, many of whom are the first in their families to go to college. By Fall 2017, we expect that USI will be able to provide opportunities for 60–80 students.

Given this incredible growth, we know we’re onto something big. Something both meaningful and profound. As the largest provider of teacher education in New England, our students, faculty, and alumni witness the transformative power of education every day. To us, education is more than what we practice. It’s what connects us. Uplifts us. It’s the driving force that inspires us to go out into the world and become agents for social change. We invite you to join us in our mission to create more possibilities for more students.

Together we can break new ground.

"Due to my background, I feel there are certain expectations that I have to meet. I have a mission, a goal, and I’ll do everything possible to achieve it. Whenever I need help, my advisor is there for me. I feel at home at Lesley. It’s really nice to know that I have a net to catch me if I fall."
