Lesley graduates from across the country and across generations reunite on campus for the annual Alumni Weekend
Lesley’s 2014 Reunion Weekend brought alumni celebrating their 20th to their 65th reunions to campus for a weekend of remembering, reminiscing and connecting to each other and the university.
Alumni from the 50th Reunion Class of 1964 were welcomed into the 29 Everett Society of alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago at a special dinner on Friday night. The campus was abuzz with excitement, laughter, and warmth as alumni greeted each other and caught up with the latest developments in their lives and at Lesley. On Saturday, special programs included a demonstration about how to teach math to kids with Sidewalk Math by Trustee Art Bardige, and all classes convened on the quad for photos and a Parade of Classes to the annual Alumni Luncheon.
Asked about what she remembers most about her Lesley education, Mary Finnegan ’64 said, “it was the great education I received to be a teacher.” She explained that because of Lesley’s outstanding reputation, when she looked for a teaching job in another state, she got one immediately. Continuing in her footsteps, Mary’s granddaughter, Eileen Finnegan, just finished her freshman year at Lesley and is “thrilled” about her Lesley experience.Lesley Trustee Carol Moriarty ’74 celebrated with her class. She commented that “there are many changes that have taken place at Lesley since we graduated, but we all agree that the unique spirit that we remember as Lesley undergraduates remains the same and continues to influence both students and alumni.”
Alumni Admissions Ambassadors representing classes from several decades also met for training during the weekend so that they can continue to assist in recruiting the next generation of Lesley students. All alumni were encouraged to stay connected and get involved in regional alumni events and a variety of special programs.
Members of the Alumni Council held their annual Alumni Association Meeting where they reviewed the association structure and benefits, voted on the 2014 slate of council member nominees, and approved the installation of Nicole Sotiriou Bearse ’00 as the president.
Both the undergraduate student government presidents from the Class of 2015 and the Class of 1954, Della Schultz and Robert Mitropoulos, met on the quad for a photo representing 60 years of student engagement at Lesley. They agree that Lesley is a place where people matter and where students thrive. Click here to see more photos from Reunion Weekend
