AIB photography facilities—labs, classrooms, shooting studio, and equipment lockup—are located in the lower level of 700 Beacon Street.
A dedicated Alternative Process darkroom with a large sink and ample counter space allows students to explore a large variety of historical processes such as Cyanotype, Vandyke, Gum Bichromate, and Platinum/Palladium. Advanced students also work in wet plate Collodian under direct faculty guidance.
Students have access to a large variety of cameras as well as lighting and studio equipment. 8"x10", 4"x5", and 2 1/4" film cameras; Nikon, Nikon, Canon, and Leaf digital cameras or backs; Profoto strobe lighting, a variety of tungsten lighting, supporting grip equipment, and light meters are all available for checkout.
The darkrooms are staffed by student monitors (photography majors in the BFA program) and are overseen by one full-time studio manager, one full-time assistant lab manager, and one part time lab manager.
The labs are open to all photo majors, any student currently enrolled in a photography course, and non-department majors who have taken and completed a photography course at AIB.Hours of Operation
