Disability Services

The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University is committed to the full participation of all students in its programs. In addition to this long-standing philosophy of the college, students with disabilities have specific legal rights. Lesley University provides reasonable accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. For more information, and to arrange services, contact the Disability Coordinator at 617-349-8194. Refer to the Lesley University Handbook and web site for a complete description of disability services.

Health Services

The Lesley University Student Health Service (SHS) provides basic primary health care services to all full-time undergraduate students of the Art Institute of Boston.  Enrollment in the SHS is automatic for students living in University housing, and is optional for full-time undergraduate students living off-campus.  It does not matter what type of health insurance you have to use SHS.  The SHS semester fee covers professional care by nurse practitioners and a supervising physician for illnesses, minor injuries, immunizations at cost, physical exams, Pap smears, and health education and counseling.  A psychiatric clinical nurse specialist is also available by referral from the SHS and the University Counselors.  A local pharmacy makes daily deliveries to SHS, where prescriptions can be picked up each afternoon on business days.  Laboratory specimens are sent to Quest Diagnostics, a large reference lab.  The cost of labs and prescriptions are the responsibility of the student (and are usually covered by your insurance.)

Appointments can be scheduled by calling 617-349-8222; we reserve some same-day appointments for students with urgent problems.  Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, during the academic year (September through mid-May.) Please contact us for a service contract for non-resident students to enroll in SHS.  Enrollment is available during the first 2 weeks of each semester. We are located in the lower level of MacKenzie Hall, below the Student Center of the Cambridge campus.  For after-hours care and emergencies, two local hospitals are within 1-2 miles of campus.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling

The Office of Student Services provides students with the services of a licensed, clinical social worker available during regularly scheduled hours. The counselor offers confidential meetings to assist students with a wide range of personal issues, from time management and roommate conflicts, to more serious mental health and substance abuse issues. Confidential individual and group sessions, and educational workshops are also held at the counseling center on the Lesley University Cambridge campus.
