 | Moving to Porter SquareThe Art Institute of Boston
(AIB) at Lesley University will
relocate from Kenmore Square in Boston to Cambridge, bringing a community of artists
and creating a cultural center in the heart of Porter
Square. Building on HistoryIn conversations with both AIB and Cambridge community groups, neighbors and city
officials, plans have centered on transforming the historic former North
Prospect Church into a new center of learning, art making, public
exhibition and arts-related events. Strengthening CommunityThe new Art Institute will be a prominent and a significant member of the already-vibrant Cambridge
arts community. On a site adjacent to Lesley's University Hall, in a
bustling city square with an eclectic mix of retail and dining options, it will provide new art galleries, an arts library and
well-designed gathering spaces. |
The new
location affords AIB students increased exposure to and interaction with
a community that has a storied tradition of supporting the arts as an
important component of urban life. The Art Institute also brings to
Cambridge a new resource of artistic partnership, art exhibition, and a
year-round program of guest artists, lectures and symposia by artists of
local, national and international renown.
