ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I am a painter and a humanist. My regard for individual dignity and the human capacity for self-realization dominates my artistic vision, therefore, I explore human behavior, social systems and identity issues as subject matter for my work. I am currently researching the concept of self-created identity through study of a pre-operative transsexual subject. In acknowledgment of the transitory elements inherent in my subject matter and in juxtaposition with traditional painting techniques, I often include elements of collage and/or three-dimensional objects in my works to heighten the ambiguity between those aspects of the image that are "real" and those that are "artificial."
