ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My work is about the figure and how it relates to its environment. I like the relationship of the nude or figure alone in its background. It can be protective or disguised.

Camouflage is a theme I keep returning to as animals are found in the wild. They are shielded by their patterns and color, which is why I concentrate on the face not showing too much information. I see these works as 'bodymasks' that protect or expose a figure and give it a new life. I am placing myself in these figures as a way of relating to my world since humans remain a mystery to me.

Good painting is a chemical reaction between you and the canvas. Paintings have to speak to you and it's different for every person.
